As with the adjacent Kampung Kolam, Kampung Kaka was once a village settled by Indian Muslims from southern India. However, the village was wiped out by the mid-20th. century. It remains as a short street to this day.
Kampung Kaka, or 'Kaka Village' in Malay, referred to the Malabari Muslim settlement that used to exist here. The term Kaka was used to politely refer to Malabari Muslims from southwestern India.
The settlement populated by Malabari Muslims had existed around the current street up to the turn of the 20th. century, when the village was gradually replaced with shophouses.
