Irving Road, George Town
Irving Road, off Dato' Keramat Road within the George Town city centre, runs from northwest to southeast between Dato' Keramat Road to the south and Krian Road to the north.

This mostly residential, narrow two-lane road once served as a minor road within the outer suburb of George Town.
Etymology[]
Irving Road was named after Charles John Irving, the acting Lieutenant-Governor of Penang between 1879 and 1880 when Penang Island was part of the Straits Settlements. Irving also served as the Resident Councillor of Penang from 1885 to 1887.
Irving was one of the few British officers who had studied the Malay political and social systems. Due to his expertise, he was frequently sent to the Malay Peninsula to negotiate with the Malay sultanates there.
